About Strong For Us
Hi — I'm Jim.
I'm a recovering alcoholic and cocaine user. It took six treatment centers — including one built around faith — before something actually stuck. Along the way I got divorced and became a single dad to three kids I'm now raising while rebuilding a life I did a lot to damage. I moved from Atlanta to Encinitas, California to start over, and I've been sober since April 2026, working an active AA program one day at a time.
I built Strong For Us because I went looking for a site like this while I was in the middle of all of it — something that talked straight about recovery, a marriage falling apart, and being a father you're not sure you're doing right — and mostly found either clinical detachment or advice from people who'd clearly never lived any of it. This is the site I wish had existed for me.
This site isn't therapy, and it isn't a substitute for a real doctor, sponsor, or lawyer when you need one. It's a place to start: specific, honest writing about the stuff men usually don't say out loud, from someone who's actually lived it.
Every article here is written by me, drawn from what I've actually been through — recovery, divorce, single parenting, and rebuilding a career and a bank account from close to nothing. Where something calls for real clinical, legal, or financial expertise beyond my own experience, I say so directly in the piece and point you to where to actually get it.
